🕒 Prep Time: 10 mins
🕒 Cook Time: 50–60 mins
🍽 Servings: 4
📎 Equipment: Air Fryer (5L+ capacity)
Ingredients
-
1.5 kg whole chicken (giblets removed)
-
2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter
-
1 tsp salt
-
½ tsp black pepper
-
1 tsp garlic powder
-
1 tsp onion powder
-
1 tsp smoked paprika
-
1 tsp dried thyme or rosemary
-
½ lemon (optional, for inside the cavity)
-
3 garlic cloves, crushed (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken
-
Pat the chicken dry with paper towels — this helps the skin get crispy.
-
Rub the olive oil or melted butter all over the chicken.
-
Mix the salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and thyme.
-
Rub the spice mix thoroughly over the chicken (including under the skin if possible).
-
Optional: Stuff the cavity with half a lemon and garlic cloves for extra flavor.
2. Preheat and Cook
-
Preheat the air fryer to 180°C (356°F) for 5 minutes.
-
Place the chicken breast side down in the air fryer basket.
-
Cook for 30 minutes, then flip it over carefully.
3. Final Roast
-
Cook for another 20–30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 75°C (165°F) in the thickest part of the thigh.
-
Let it rest for 10 minutes before carving. This keeps it juicy.
Tips for Success
-
Use a meat thermometer to avoid overcooking.
-
If the skin browns too quickly, cover the top loosely with foil.
-
Add root veggies (like potatoes or carrots) under the rack for a one-pot meal.
Optional Serving Suggestions
-
Serve with air-fried roast vegetables or a green salad.
-
Drizzle with lemon juice or garlic herb butter for extra flavor.
